Date: SAT 06/07/97 Section: a Page: 33 Edition: 3 STAR Jury fines man $1.1 million in sex assault case By GEORGE FLYNN Staff Jurors in the court of state District Judge John Devine returned the verdict earlier this week against Jimmy Galindo Jr., now a 33-year-old nutritional products salesman. They found that Galindo sexually assaulted the young woman, now 20, in the early morning hours of Oct. 23, 1994. The woman, a high school student at the time, had just started as a receptionist working with Galindo and others at the Willowbrook-area Q Sports Club, which also operated as the Sports & Fitness Club. A lawsuit filed by attorney Jimmy Williamson alleged that the teen joined the grand opening party at the club at 11 p.m., where caterers served her alcoholic beverages without checking for identification. The suit said executives and other workers at the club left at 12:30 a.m. and invited the girl to go to the nearby T.G.I. Friday's at Willowbrook Mall, where she was treated to more drinks. According to the suit, they asked Galindo to drive her home because she was visibly intoxicated. Instead, the suit said, he took her to his apartment and allegedly sexually assaulted her. Galindo denied having any sexual relations with her. "There definitely will be an appeal," said Galindo attorney Ron Ramey, who declined further comment on the case. In the suit, Williamson sought $35 million in damages for the young woman. She received confidential settlements earlier from the sports club and T.G.I. Friday's, those close to the case said. The jury found that the woman was due $100,000 in actual damages for therapy and treatment, and $1 million in punitive damages against Galindo.
